ABOUT US - Stewart Berry Designs is a locally owned Richmond Virginia event planning and floral design company that specializes in personal service and economical solutions to creating dream weddings.  We work one on one with each bride and we always say - use our creativity and not your cash !

Martha Stewart  -  originally from Michigan and a long time resident of New York City, Martha has a business degree from Western Michigan University and is a certified Project Manager.  She holds certificates in wedding coordination and event planning.  Before co-founding SBD, Martha was a buyer for Lord & Taylor and Bloomingdale's, followed by 17 years at Circuit City Stores with concentration on project management and vendor relations.  She has two daughters and seven grandchildren.  Her passions are weddings, weddings, weddings, followed by football -  Florida State University and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers - supporting grandson Cody in his competitive swinmming career, photography and gardening.  Martha often says she would rather be at a wedding helping to make the event a success than be anywhere else. Except possibly watching Chief Osceola and Renegade throw the flaming spear from the 50 yard line in Doak Campbell stadium on a fall afternoon.

Debbie Berry - originally from Ohio, Debbie holds a Masters Degree in Education from Ohio State University and is certified in floral design and decor.  After her teaching career, Debbie transformed her life long love of antiques, vintage items and historical lore into a successful retail business. Also a  founder of SBD, she is an avid decorator and gardener with a talent for combining the two into home and landscape design that is well known in the Midlothian area. Debbie and husband Randy have a daughter and son, and six grandchildren. A master of color and floral design, her passions are bridal bouquets and creative center pieces - always with low cost in mind.

Stewart Berry Designs, or SBD as we like to call it, began hundreds of weddings ago in the mid 1990's.  With Debbie's color and floral experience and Martha's project management and vendor relations experience, coupled with their mutual interest in weddings, estate sales and collecting vintage/antique items, Martha and Debbie were often called on by friends and family to design wedding floral arrangements, to create a time-line for an event, or manage the various vendors during the reception.  It was an obvious transition into the creation of a wedding planning and floral business.

From the very beginning, Martha and Debbie were committed to a company that was different from the usual wedding floral and coordination offerings. They based their company on four concepts - that each wedding is special, that personal service was mandatory, that their family heirlooms and personal collections should be used and not just collect dust, and that money is precious and should be respected.  With these four basic ideals, they created the following belief statements -

  • Personal service - you will always work directly with Martha and Debbie as we do not use interns or assistants
  • Local and small is better -  we are committed to each Bride and want to get to know her
  • Each event is special - floral and decor designs are not repeated and each Bride and wedding is unique; for her and for us
  • One at a time - just as we would want our professionals to concentrate only on us, we only do one wedding a weekend for one Bride
  • Money is precious - we will stretch every dollar as far as possible to give the most benefit for the least cost
  • Prices shouldn't be a secret - our prices are not a mystery and they are posted right here on this website for review
  • Photos should be of your own work - we only show pictures of our work and not stock files, internet, or magazine photos
  • Stay knowledgeable - never stop learning about the business, the etiquette/traditions, as well as the current trends
  • Stay true to ourselves and our Brides - we do not accept referral fees from venues or other vendors for steering our Brides to them
  • Experience should be shared - we are pleased to share our extensive knowledge of tradition, etiquette and trends
  • Weddings are a once in a lifetime event - we love weddings and want to do whatever we can to make your day excellent
  • Mothers should be guests at the wedding - we'll run interference, handle tough calls, and watch the clock for them
  • Brides rule - we give our honest and best advice based on our real wedding knowledge and experience, but in the end it's their call
  • Licenses, insurance and certification should be required -  we are documented professionals in the business; not amateurs or hobbyists
  • Our collection of wedding items should be enjoyed - sharing items with Brides through our Loaner Program is a great way to honor our collections
  • Pay it forward when you can - we donate goods and services to many local causes such as Cinderella Dreams, Run for Life, and MCV
